me see the magic I would
otherwise have missed –
a lost glove, tattered but found,
roots protruding from the ground.

Day breaks free from night
as those owls keep questioning
“Who? Who? Who?” and crows,
cardinals, doves, and bluejays say
it really doesn’t matter.

It was so subtle,
that sudden shift of light,
I couldn’t tell which
grew brighter, the buttercups,
the trees, or possibly me.

There’s less conflict
at the feeder when
most of the seed is gone.
Maybe when stomachs are full,
there’s less appetite for fight.

After many days of brisk winds,
today is suddenly still.
I let that stillness be my guide
and after many days of busyness,
I slow down and softly settle in.

Today I offered
my worries to the clouds above.
Sadly, they declined.

Sometimes what we need most
is an engaged witness –
one who offers us attentive presence
and a silence so open and deep
that we can hear our own heart speak.

Knox’s habit of
running with sticks is ok
until they get in my way.

The morning after
the big wind, the trees softly
wave a green hello.
