Out here in the country,
it’s all I can do
to keep up with Knox
and the squirrels.
I don’t have time
for the Joneses.

Gently falling rain,
restful Sunday afternoon,
summer’s warm blessing
JDG
light rippling on pond –
a needed bit of sparkle
on overcast day
JDG
Dinner with grandson –
a veritable feast
of historical fact, fiction
and stories galore,
excitedly presented,
leaving me hungry for more.

After almost eighty years
of learning and unlearning,
I’ve found it helps to
hold things loosely.

I open the door.
It’s raining. Knox steps outside.
I stay in. Knox stops, waits,
turns, comes back in.
I sigh, put on my rain cape.
It looks like we go together
or not at all.
JDG
Even in the rain
sunflowers still shine, swaying
wildly in sweeping wind.
JDG
Trees catch falling rain –
a fleeting meeting before
a hurried parting.
JDG
Squirrel chases squirrel.
Knox chases squirrel chasing squirrel.
I chase Knox chasing squirrel chasing squirrel.
Crow calls race for first squirrel.
Knox lodges protest.
JDG
Softly the wind blows,
whispering memories of
summer days long past.
