Walking Shoes

No one walks in another’s shoes

and even if we could,

it would be us, not them,

who put one foot and then another

on the path that lies ahead.

When  a path takes a sharp turn

or comes to a sudden end,

not one of us knows what we’d do

even wearing our own shoes.
