Nestled among rolling hills
and evergreen trees, the cats and I watch
as the cardinals feed.
Knox waits impatiently at the door
ready to start his morning chore
banishing squirrels and gathering sticks.
Everything is as it was before.
Joy stands waiting at my front door…
with a welcoming heart, I invite her in.

Hearing his friend bark,
Knox got a big doggy grin
and bounded off in search of him.
He left behind unchased squirrels, but
he’ll tend to them another time.

No fuss, no drama.
Just soaring seagulls, sunny skies,
gently breaking waves.
I bow to their beauty
and breathe in their peace.

Even though I’ve said
hello, the ocean keeps
waving at me.

After years of estrangement,
body and mind are now
working together
with a heartfelt purpose in mind.

Breaking waves greet
clouds overhead
whispering softly,
“We’re in this together.”
JDG
,
The waves’ rhythmic beat
upon the sandy shore
washes away the tension
from the weeks before.

After surveying the land,
Knox failed to see
enough sticks to keep
his stick throwers busy.
Off he went on
his stick finding quest
and now our yard
is one big mess,
but neighbors’ yards
are now stick free.
