I thought of a slew
of reasons to delay, but
went ahead and did it anyway.

Through high winds and storms
we stand.
Sometimes the turbulence
has been within,
sometimes between,
sometimes without.
Still we stand.
When heart, mind, and soul align
and we join hands with one another,
we don’t just survive –
we thrive.

“She’s discovered her breath –
what will it be next?
Her left big toe?

connects me to my body
and to the present moment.

you traveled across night skies?

and moved with greater ease
as I did my routine.

Autumn morning light,
trees tipped with gold and red ,
tired yellow buses
filled with squirming kids –
moods of many colors.

I breathed in weakness
and breathed out strength.
Tonglen in action.

In this very moment
what do I need to let go of,
what do I need to add,
what do I need to keep
so that the best in me can step forward?
