Driving through the morning mist,
lost in a fog of my own making,
I startle as three young deer
leap before me.
I shudder at what might have been
and acknowledge what is now
with gratitude.

I startle as three young deer
leap before me.
I shudder at what might have been
and acknowledge what is now

Today all I can say
is I overrode
my own protests
and did
my routine anyway.
-JDG
From a source beyond myself
I was asked
“What have you become?”.
It caught me by surprise
and left me feeling sad and judged
until I came to see
it was a koan to sit with,
not something words could answer.
JDG
Though I started late,
I know if I don’t cede, I
can and will succeed.
JDG
A day when the dog
ate all the cat food, the bank
changed its hours for
maximum inconvenience,
and I failed to transcend.
JDG
Just one of those days
when it’s hard to remember
why I started this.
JDG
I stand on the rim
and looking into the pot
I’ve been stewing in,
I quickly hop down
and turn off the heat.
JDG
When “I have to”
becomes
“I am able to,”
I’ve entered a different world.
JDG
If we gave up the sweet satisfaction
of being right
and let ourselves feel instead
the sweet satisfaction
of being,
would that be the end
of civilization as we know it?
JDG
Thank you, Coach Kozak
and HASfit for leading me
in something I’ll actually do.
I can honestly say,
after seventy days,
this work out
is working out for me.
