met in the dark

Two days after Christmas

and all through the house 

quiet abides…Yes, there’s

an occasional meow, bark,

 or whine, but mostly there’s 

silence til the grandkids return

with scrappy opinions, laughter, and more.

on frozen pond –

a waltz of opposites.

I know it’s really

cold when Knox does his business

ignores favorite sticks,

briefly chases some squirrels,

and hurriedly herds me home.

become so wise?

In suffering, his truth was found.

That truth became his ground.
