
Post sun-set serenity
in shades of
black and gray.

a minute of the time
I have left.
I want to
watch the sun rise and set,
listen to bird song,
pet my dog,
sip my wine,
laugh with grandkids.
I don’t want habit or worry
to rob me
of these “unproductive” moments.

Why feast on nectar
when there’s plenty of dog poop
along the roadside?

Reaching for the moon,
she touched,
not the moon,
but her visionary self.

Every evening
they go for a leisurely stroll,
that doe and fawn.
Like us, they have their daily rituals.

I told Knox I was
too tired to play, but he had
other ideas.
“You throw. I’ll fetch and soon you’ll
see how happy we’ll both be.”

After days of warmth
a chill set in. It won’t be long
before it’s warm again.
Isn’t that the way things go?
Nothing lasts forever.

White blooming clover
and yellow buttercups join
wild strawberries
to take over the lawn. Bees
and butterflies cheer them on.

May the peace of these
rooted trees envelop me
and still my uneasy heart.
