There’s something to be learned
from that mother deer
who stopped her fawn from nursing.
Though they’re still bonded,
it’s time for the fawn
to shift its gaze from mom
and feed upon its own.

It’s rumored that wives
have paid owners of this small
restaurant quite well
to serve their husbands a fine
breakfast…slowly… so they can sleep.

Newborn calves slowly
get their footing and with eyes
wide open begin
to explore this strange green world
which has become their new home.

Halloween previews
with all their ghosts and goblins
are playing every
moment these pre-election
days, giving us quite a fright.

Small blessings sometimes
come in furry bundles of
barking joy though
the squirrels would disagree.

Openings allow light
to pour forth from
hearts, minds, and sky.
