We can prepare the soil, plant the seeds,
weed and water –
that’s what we
can do.
All
the
worried
watching won’t
guarantee growth
in our gardens, our children, or in us.

As if to reassure us that it meant
no harm, the rain
asked the sun
to shine
as
it
poured forth,
hoping we
would judge it not
just by itself, but by the friends it keeps.
JDG
After days of rain, sunlight ignited
soaring sparks of
shimmering
pleasure .
For
now
I’ll bask
in golden
light and allow
myself to simply sit and take it in.
JDG
Another storm, another shattered limb
from a tree that
has given
us so
much –
white
blossoms
in spring and
much-welcomed shade
in summer – diminished now, but still strong.
JDG
The answers, indeed, may be blowing in
the wind, but two
big questions
remain –
from
whence
does the
wind blow and
what will we do
once we hear those answers that the wind brings?
JDG
What was, is, and will be is present in
me, in you, and
in all things.
What if
we
paused
and asked,
as many
have, the question,
Why is there something rather than nothing?
JDG
Upset today by one more broken thing,
self-pity and
blame flooded
over
me.
I
can choose
to sink or
I can stretch to
float and feel the sun soothe my tender skin.
JDG
Lost in thought, I almost missed the soft touch
of that small hand
upon my
arm. “Could
you
help
Nana
zip her coat?
Her hair’s gray too.”
Nana and I smiled and got to work.
JDG
In order to save a few minutes, we
speed up and lose
our pleasure
in what’s
here.
We
rush to
pursue what
isn’t here, then,
exhausted, we start all over again.
JDG
Feeling gratitude for a number of
unspecified
things, though I
could name
more
than
a few
if I had
to. It’s enough
to bask in unenumerated joys.
