Quite Unlikely Things

Things have come to a strange pass when what brings

comfort is a

twittering

air vent,

but

I

remind

myself it’s

much like other

quite unlikely things from which sweetness springs.

Armouring Up

I definitely met my match today

when I told my

granddaughter

her first

car

should

be an

armoured one.

She laughed and said,

“Spoken by someone with an armoured view.”

Driving Truths

Uncertainty is at the wheel of life,

a fact we like

to ignore

as we

search

for

many

different

vehicles to

put us securely in the driver’s seat.

Thanks But No Thanks

Just to show her gratitude, our cat brought

a mouse for our

Thanksgiving

feast and

seemed

put

out by

our failure

to show proper

appreciation for her offering.

Please Don’t Say

This day has been just a breath away from

frustration, a

sigh away

from mad,

a

shrug

away

from anger,

a tear away

from sad. Please don’t say it could well be worse.

World Peace And Me

“We think in generalities, but we

live in detail,”

Lord Whitehead

said and

he

spoke true.

Just today

I thought of world

peace and nagged the kids to let the dog out.

Strange Catch

I was tired but instead of a nap

I decided

to catch a

poem

right

there,

right then..

At first not

a nibble – til

I hauled in this strange and struggling catch.

Little Did I Know

Little did I know back then how little

I really knew.

I guess I’m

growing

more

wise

day by

day, week by

week, year by year

as the little I know becomes more clear.

Poetry Remains

In the early morning mist that tree stood

aflame with light,

calling us

to rhyme

and

shine.

Even

if the path’s

unclear and our

rhythm almost gone, poetry remains.

What Abounds

Contradiction and paradox abound,

asking only

that we show

up and

say

yes

to all

we know and

all we don’t, to

what Zorba calls life’s full catastrophe.
