won’t be found in any haystack.

It’s lodged in his angry heart.

Leaves begin to turn.

Kids are back in school.

You’d think the weather

would take a hint, but

it chooses to move

to its own heated beat.

at stake, speedy solutions

will often trip you up.

Listen to the wind

as it whispers to the tress.

What secrets does it share?

Did that cardinal overhear

and turn the secrets into song?

Rain, slow and steady,

gently reminds us

life’s not a speeding contest.

They

dance to their own music,

sing their own songs –

these playful rebels

in a Walmart world

where cash registers

reign supreme.

As the rain drew near

and thunder filled the air,

birds rushed to quickly 

snatch a bite before

they retired for the night.

Though there’s plenty of food

and plenty of space, those doves

still flutter, peck, and chase.

Sometimes even birds of peace

set aside the golden rule

 that was taught in Sunday school.

Chose not to labor today,

 but Knox insisted

we take the time to smell

what to him were roses,

but to me? …I’d rather not say.
