“The squirrels are taking over
the world! Let me out! “

Shivers this morning
from the cold, but
also from delight.
The sun rises, the birds
sing along, and Knox
orchestrates with
a new stick.

When I listen to my body
tell the truth, I might not like
what I hear because the truth
can hurt, but ignoring it
can hurt worse.

Yesterday’s snow covered
the ground lightly,
adding a touch
of magic to the start
. of a cold week.
Sometimes a touch
is all it takes.

Fell asleep with a cold rain.
awoke to a light snow.
Winter wonderland –
You wonder how it’s going to go.
JDG
Yearning for some holiday cheer,
I turn on the tv only to discover
season’s greetings have been replaced
with season’s grievances.
Knox and I go for a walk and are cheered
by the sight of cardinals among the evergreens.

Filled with gratitude
that after eighty-one years
on this planet
there’s still so much
to learn, to savor,
to share.

Sometimes daily tasks
expand and leave little time
for poetry of heart or mind.
