After some sunny days,

the clouds have once again

asserted their dominion

over the sky.

comes the sound of a dog’s howl.

Knox howls back in solidarity.

In a private conversation

with the universe today

I had my say,

but the universe seemed

to have other concerns.

Wrapped in a blanket

of silence, a cat’s soft purr

lulls me to sleep.

I turned off the lights,

but was not able to 

turn off my thoughts.

 Instead of counting sheep,

I counted canaries

and fell asleep feeling

wise and contrary.
