Knox gave the blackberries
a sniff, but decided
they didn’t meet his standards;
however, some deer droppings did.

Every day they’re less skittish
as they expectantly await
the spreading of the seed.

maybe less than a minute,
for her to speak the words
that would change his life.

much to my chagrin,
refused to take care of

a mother rabbit and her young.

Tired of grazing
behind the fence, the neighbor’s cows
took to the road.

His brown tail makes him
different from his gray-tailed friends,
but they seem not to notice..

When fear becomes a dictator
and worry rules the world,
a glistening drop of water,
a firefly darting in the dark,
a friend’s silent understanding,
a dog’s rapidly wagging tail
can provide us temporary refuge
and soothe our anxious souls.
