A faithful viewer,
our cat, Murphy, lies abed
watching the antics
of birds and squirrels.

Out of nowhere, they came,
those three deer. So intent
on crossing the road
to get to the other side,
they almost didn’t arrive.

Whether in full leaf
or totally bare, a tree’s
always completely there..

In spite of the heat,
those bachelor buttons stood by
the side of the road and waved.
JDG
Black beak open wide,
that raven pronounces
his satisfaction with the seed
spread before him.
I acknowledge his appreciation
with a nod and a smile.

This summer morning
the bees were all buzzing from
their honeysuckle rush.
JDG
The poet in us
moves through the world
dancing with whatever it meets.
JDG
On a morning hop –
two baby rabbits and one
adoring mother.
JDG
Instead of waiting
for the other shoe to drop,
let’s put on our shoes and walk.
