On Not Impressing Queen Anne

Queen Anne was not impressed when I

smiled and waved

as I’d seen the

royals do. It

was a natural response to

 those bachelors, tall

and thin, who lined

the road, blue faces

turned my way. How could I pass by

pretending I

didn’t even

care they were there?

Finding A Minute

Some days finding a minute

to write a minute

is no easy

feat, yet setting

aside some time each day helps me

come home from tasks

and talk. It’s good

to return to

the simple joy of being, to

take the time to

note what gets lost

in life’s uproar.

In The Time Allotted

Somehow, between the first time and

the last time, I

make my way. The

hour hand slowly

shifts, the calendar pages turn.

Will I find time,

make time, mark time,

do time, lose time

before my time runs out? Today

time embraced me

whispering, “There

is time enough.”

What Comes Back

What comes back now, opening doors

I thought I’d closed,

are ghosts of things

long past. People,

pets, memories tiptoe in, sit

down next to me,

and gaze into

my eyes. I look

and what I see of them and me

has been softened

by tears and time.

I take my rest.

Frog Fest

When the sun begins to sink, things

really start to

warm up by the

pond. Every night

they gather for a lengthy fest.

 Fireflies start

to wildly

flick their lighters

as  funky frogs and other critters

shriek. They keep on

boogeying til

  morning makes light.

Word Fare

Right now I’m satiated. I

can’t take in one

more morsel of

data, one more

tiny bit of information,

one more must-have

piece of news. I

need to digest

what I’ve already consumed, so

I’m limiting

my intake of

word-filled fare.

Road Work

The road was narrow and the truck

ahead traveled

very slow. I

was forced to slow

down too and saw soft clouds and sun

light sparkling on

morning dew. If

it hadn’t been

for that truck, my view would have been

as narrow as

the road we were

traveling on.

A Certain Zest

When the sun breaks free from chasing

clouds and finds its

way to open

sky, a smile

plays across the face of land and

trees before it

fades away. Those

bright moments come

and go, adding a certain zest

to the fatigue

of sun or shade

in strong excess.

License Plate Wisdom

A moving reminder passed me

today with a

license plate that

read “Them  2″.  Does

any more need to be said?  By

making room for

each of us, no

matter how much

we differ, our hearts and minds can

grow big enough

that wisdom can

come and enter.

Evening Blues

In the gaps among the trees, blue

sky shines through. No

sun or moon is

visible, yet

the blue persists, intensifies,

as trees darken

amidst evening

sounds of shrill -voiced

frogs. The dark creeps upward rather

than descends and

slowly swallows

  what was once blue.
