Tea Time At Almost Seventy

Today I had a fantasy

of sitting down

to tea with six

of my former

selves – one from each decade of my

life. We would swap

tales of what we’d

learned and what we

wished we’d known, hoping this would help

the decade soon

to come to be

both wise and well.

Early Harvest

With just a hint of turning leaves,

fall harvesting

has begun. Fields

 will lie fallow

through the cold, then new sprouts will come,

sometimes from their

own roots and seeds,

sometimes from fresh

planting. Either way, Spring’s warmth will

bring new growth to

this harvested,

now barren land.

Finding An Opening

When I pause to reflect on all

that had to be

just the way it

was for me to

be at all, my mind expands in

wonderment. When

times are hard, may

I take refuge

here and open up to all that

was and is and

ever shall be.

Each plays its part.

When Caught In The Clamor

When caught in the clamoring swirl

of conflicting

pulls and pushes,

the great sages

have gone to a still place within

and waited for

wisdom to speak.

Most times that seems

a stretch too far for my edgy

self, but I know

how much is lost

when I don’t go.

Heart’s Ground

From the dark matter of earth, green

grows, greeted by

rain and dancing

light. May the dark

matter of our hearts join the light

and bring forth green,

creating a

grounded space for

others to find rest and sustenance

so they too can

bring forth green and

become heart’s ground.

Faux: Friend and Foe

Faking it til you make it is

sometimes a way

to learn to play

by staying in

the game. We can learn alot when

we switch from can’t

to can, but not

every game can

be played that way. Faux can quickly

turn to foe when

used to bypass

reality.

Strange Things

The world is full of very strange

things like the Kea,

a New Zealand

bird, who likes to

eat the rubber strips around car

windows and we

humans who can

sometimes claim to

have accomplished all that we have

without any

help from others

along the way.

A Summer Makeover

Today, after endless days of

donning Summer’s

cloying clothes that

stick to us til

we grow hot and steamy too,

Summer got a

makeover and none

too soon. Now, for

a little while, in this new found

summery wear

moods lighten and

we move with ease.

A Changing Sky

With flailing limbs in darkened sky

the storm announced

itself. “Look out

and up and be

very afraid. I have arrived.”

And yet, as is

so often true,

the storm turned out

to be all gusts and guff and not

much more – just a

windy message

in a changing sky.

Heavy Metal Moment

As the fourteen year old picks out

a fretful tune

on her guitar,

her sisters, in

another room, yell in fitful

bursts. The cats screech,

the dogs, turning

their noses to

the moon, howl, and I cover up

my ears and turn,

beating it to

the nearest door.
