Where Light Abides

The day slipped from grey to black with

not a glimmer

of sun or star.

Memory keeps

their light alive until day’s sky

  shines with new gold

and night’s sparkle

comes back. Til then

we hunker down, drawn together

by our own light

and fire of

our own making.

The Shift of Time

As the day slowly slides into

light, a young deer

stands looking out

into the mist,

as do I. What the young deer is

thinking I do

not know, but my

thoughts turn to dark

and light and the slow shift of time.

Still, this autumn

the leaves seem to

be turning fast.

Why Now?

The sages say, ” Do spiritual

practices now

so you’ll have them

when you need them.”

Today I wish I’d practiced more

’cause though my need

was clearly there,

I’d left my tools

behind in loving-kindness class.

I’ll go back now,

pick them up, and

begin again.

On The Job, Balancing

When energy dwindles, it’s no

easy task to

balance amidst

life’s crashing waves.

When each small move seems harder than

the last, how do

you learn to surf,

knowing the waves

won’t stop for you to learn. You have

to learn on the

job, balancing

what little’s left.

Winged Magic

I watched the people as they watched

the butterflies.

They all, toddlers,

seniors and those

 between, looked with smiling wonder

as these flying

colors dipped and

danced about the

misty, tree-filled room. For a while

winged magic wove

its awesome spell

and we flew too.

Caught and Released

Caught in an inner narrative

of anger, hurt

and fear, I left

the here and now

and entered if and then, losing

touch with simply

is. I stayed in

that nowhere place

until I somehow found my way

back with ” May I

be well.  May you

and all be well.”

A Gentle Warrior

A gentle warrior, the moon

stands sentry as

lightning fires

its warning shots

across the sky. Even as thunder

echoes through the

air and dark clouds

block her face, her

soft presence abides, firm and round

and full of light,

undaunted by

the passing storm.

Little Bird

Little Bird, at first I thought you

were a mourning

dove perched upon

my mailbox as

I drove by, but now I’m not so

sure. It only

seems fitting that

I learn your name

when you graciously paused amidst

your birdly chores

to send me off

to work today.

Lifted Up

When gold spills forth from morning sky

and lingers through

a day not too

hot or cold, when

kids, cats, and dogs can run and play

and fuss outside,

leaving me to

rest and read, nap

and write, I know I’m living high.

Such slow moving,

sun-filled, quiet

days lift me up.

Promises

Today a rainbow shone amidst

the morning fog;

it’s good to know

the promise holds.

Even when the way’s not clear, we

too can do our

part to honor

sacred covenants.

With focused minds and willing hands ,

we can jointly

build a world which

enriches all.
