Ah, These Humans

My mind was full of things I had

to do today

when he appeared

and placed his paw

upon my knees, his head beneath

my hand. “Ah, these

humans,” he seemed

to say, “Don’t they

know the day will go better if

they start, not with

an agenda,

but with love.”

Soul Excavation

Somewhere under all this anger,

doubt, and fear,

sweet soul lies – a

soul unclouded

by sadness and remorse – a soul

untouched by harsh

thought, word, or deed

– an unjudging

presence, embracing all, loving

all simply as

it is.  May I

begin to dig.

Homeopathic Remedy

In one quick swoop, that small blue bird

swept aside all

remaining blues

and opened up

a day begun in gray. “Come soar

with me among

what’s ever green

and linger near

those rain-soaked daffodils standing

in that patch of

snow. Sure, there’s gray,

but there’s much more.”

What Might be Missed

Small purple patches suddenly

dot the ground where

yesterday there

were none.  Some small

changes signal large shifts, though they

might easily

be missed, as we

hurry along

our way, absorbed by matters much

 more grand than the

sight of tiny,

purple flowerings.

All Things New

After a season of fitful

sleep,  Spring begins

to stir, calling

us to wake up

too and greet each young and tender

bit of green.  All

things new need soft

and gentle eyes

to see them into beingness.

Thus the  seer

and the seen grow

together new.

Pink Persistence

For the second or third time this

year, that cherry

tree has tried to

bloom only to

have its burst of hope dashed by cold’s

sudden return.

Now that it’s joined

by other faith

filled friends, its pink persistence might

 chase away the

cold and let full

blossoming unfold.

Eyes Beseeching

There she was, that large brown bear, her

eyes beseeching

us to look past

the cobwebs on

her face to mothers everywhere.

She reminds us

that each of us

is part of life’s

great round, longing to be seen with

 caring eyes and

hearts that won’t let

us fade from view.

Some Things

My son recently reminded

me that he once

put a bumper

sticker on my

car which read, “Caution. I brake for

no apparent

reason.” When asked

what brought this to

mind, he sighed and said, “Oh Mom,

some things never

change, yet alone

improve with age.”

Just These

I took myself in my own arms

and listened as

I spoke my fears.

Making space for

this outpouring led to a slow

quieting. No

judgements  were made;

no proposals

given, only a listening

heart and open

mind – just these – and

not one thing more.

Wild Green Offering

After a long season of tan,

even wild

onions are a

welcome sight as

they bring a touch of green to these

hills of bland. It

won’t be long, I

know, until I’m

singing a different song and

their wild green

offering will

seem out of tune.
