makes me aware
there’s much to explore
and some that
it’s best to ignore.

What dreams await
our sleepy heads,
I do not know,
but I pray they’re comforting,
inspiring and sweet.

With Covid we’re masked
even in therapy
where we hoped
to feel safe enough
to name and remove them.

on a bare limb –
sometimes it’s like
that for us after
we’ve been stripped bare.

My small story
is only part
of a much larger one.
When I’m open to both,
compassion can enter.

That blue-tailed skink
has put on quite a performance,
bringing an iridescent glow
to our otherwise dull porch
and giving Knox and the cats a thrill.

Now more than ever before,
I’m a thinker in search of a thought,
a poet in search of a poem,
and oddly content
even when nothing is found.

As the days grew hotter,
their patience grew thinner,
and their tempers grew shorter,
but she paused longer
and better held her tongue.

Though separated
by a thin window pane,
we dine together,
those birds, squirrels, and I.
To them I raise my glass.
