Pick up a pen and begin.
Writing can help us
get through hard times,
celebrate good times,
and enliven mediocre ones.

Outside it’s cold and dark.
Sitting on the couch,
Knox snuggled by my side,
I breathe in warmth and light
and breathe out gratitude.
JDG
May we have
the courage
to be awkward,
knowing that’s how
growth and change begin.
JDG
After years of
branching out,
I’m content now
to simply
tend the roots.

Rose bushes have
both blossoms and thorns.
We too have blossoms and thorns,
though it’s easier
to accept in roses.

On this, our last walk of the day,
I greet the slowly rising moon
and welcome each star
as Knox enthusiastically
sniffs everything along the way.
JDG
Just when I thought
we were stepping in harmony,
a squirrel scampered by
and my thoughts and I
were left in the dust.
JDG
On yet another gray day
the trees are dropping
golden reminders
to prepare for cooler weather,
more darkness, less light.
JDG
Between the honking geese
and the cawing crows
my silent rural retreat
has turned into
a wild reality show.
JDG
I get still and ask myself
what wants to have its say today.
I get still and wait
’til with a start, I awake…
The body had its say.
