Yesterday’s heat

must have melted

Summer’s heart because

today she blessed us

with a cool surprise.

I may not be ready

 to dance in the rain,

but I can stand under

an umbrella and maybe

even smile as I watch it fall.

Even when joy

seems far away,

take a moment,

watch the breeze

caress the trees.

On our way

to enlightenment

we can pass through

some very dark places.

Let’s not linger there.

When the path is rocky

and our steps falter,

canes and companions

offer balance and support

along the way.

Sun shines.

Breeze blows.

Knox wanders.

Birds flit.

I sit.

Unpacking days

almost too heavy to carry,

she was grateful for

the unsolicited gift

of a helping hand.

Sunflower seeds or

wild blackberries?

Hope birds and squirrels

choose the seeds

and leave some berries for us.

lightens my load,

brightens my mood

on an otherwise

gray burdened day.
