Those little bouncy things
seem like they’d be lots of fun,
but they just hop away.
Oh well, I guess for now
balls will have to do.

Ah, these pesky pronouns!
Just when I congratulate myself
for finally getting them right,
I make another error.
Still, I’ll keep on trying.

That eagle soared low
in front of my car.
Maybe he wanted me to know
though I could drive,
he could fly.

Trying to be true
to the commitment I made
to write a poem each day,
but it gets really hard when
I have nothing I want to say.

Not ones to stand on ceremony,
Bachelor Buttons
and Black-eyed Susans
extend warm summer greetings
to all passersby.

In no time at all, then becomes now
as mother and daughters reminisce,
adding this very moment
to their storehouse
to later bring out and share.

If there’s anything my grandchildren
don’t have an opinion about,
I haven’t found it.
And ah…
they’re so willing to share.

Even after I mustered
all my arguments,
leaped through mental hoops,
and turned logical cartwheels,
my better self remained unconvinced.

he got the announcer role,
but that small bird
takes his job seriously,
chirping daily, “Your meal is served “.
