Colorful visitors,
swayed by wind’s whispers, dance in
my yard this fall day.

November may be
the longest month. I guess we’ll
have to wait and see.

Evergreens prefer
to ignore the season’s call
to release and let go.
Instead, they hold firmly
to their right to be themselves
and do as they choose.

Before the sun has risen,
Knox has, insisting
if he doesn’t quickly
clear our land of squirrels,
all will be lost and so,
I too arise and while he
chases squirrels, I…
I chase dreams of sleeping in.

Justice often begins
with a small voice inside,
a tear drop
that says,
“Things can be better.”
It may grow to a trickle,
dripping more and more
until justice
“rolls down like rivers.”
as the Bible says,
where we tackle despair and
grief and feeling unwanted.
We may cross deep oceans,
making a difference
in fathoms of
poverty and racial strife.
No wrong is too small to right,
no hardship too large
to conquer
If you need justice,
watch for the lighthouse
on the approaching shore of the water,
training your eyes
on the flickering
yet steady redeemer
of all beckoning lights
where someone, anyone is
waiting to help.
Morning sun winks at
turning leaves, causing some to
glow and some to blush.

Gold leaves take a curved
course as they fall to the ground
showing that beauty
can coexist with aging
and a final letting go.

On the road near home,
I pass beneath a golden
canopy of leaves.
Autumn’s bountiful gift slows
me down and lifts me up.
