This morning the sun arrived
in a burst of glory as some trees
prepared for a colorful exit.

The hills are aflame
with the promise of sunrise
as crows soar overhead
and the ground lies covered with
a blanket of fallen leaves.

Before the day breaks,
while night’s darkness still lingers,
the cats start to share
their plans for the day. I sigh
and try to go back to sleep.

Down by the roadside
a small deer stands wondering
where his mother went.

The sky is filled with the song
of that solo flying bird
Perhaps he’s auditioning for a duet.

Knox greeted the vet
with enthusiasm, but
when he caught on to
why we’d come, he looked at me
as if to say, “this ain’t fun”.

Staring at me from the porch rail,
several birds clearly convey
they must be fed without delay.

As much as we’d like,
things are seldom black and white,
but sometimes there’s gold.
JDG
Clouds in shades of pink,
white, and gray catch sight
of themselves in the pond –
mere reflections of their lofty selves.
