When fear becomes a dictator
and worry rules the world,
a glistening drop of water,
a firefly darting in the dark,
a friend’s silent understanding,
a dog’s rapidly wagging tail
can provide us temporary refuge
and soothe our anxious souls.

on a run this morning. but
I opted for a slow walk.

They’re almost eating
out of my hand,
these winged and furry creatures.

Outside in the sky
white clouds gather to welcome
the emerging sun.

that small plant found a crack
in the concrete, emerged and shared
its purple and gold beauty with the world.
