faced with courage,

can make us

you can expect to be kicked.

require big adjustments,

but each year we save the day.

there was a standoff between

two birds, but they soon

realized there was enough seed

for both so they simply ate.

Colorful visitors,

swayed by wind’s whispers, dance in

my yard this fall day.

November may be

the longest month. I guess we’ll

have to wait and see.

Evergreens prefer

to ignore the season’s call

to release and let go.

Instead, they hold firmly

to their right to be themselves

and do as they choose.

Before the sun has risen,

Knox has, insisting 

if he doesn’t quickly

clear our land of squirrels,

all will be lost and so,

I too arise and while he

chases squirrels, I…

I chase dreams of sleeping in.

ways to expand them.

A loosened grip creates space

for us to grow in place.
