Today I got a taste,

not by will, but by grace

of an unaccustomed peace

as my grandkids scanned

each item in the store

looking for that just right,

deeply satisfying thing.

I knew better than to share

that just right, deeply satisfying things

 can be found within.

Some things can’t be bought.

 Some things can’t be taught.

When they come our way,

as they did for me today,

we offer silent thanks

for the wonder of a gift

freely given and unsought.
